Make Your Own Website

Although I had no experience with website design or writing internet code, I decided to make my own website to put up some pictures and helpful information about Paradise Island so that other folks who needed to get away would be able to see what it was all about. While still working hard as a graduate student, I signed up for Site Build It to help me learn how to build a website.

I worked on it for a few hours a week to rest my mind from my studies. Slowly, my baby steps paid off and the site took shape. When I graduated, I was able to devote a little more time to adding pages. The process showed me numerous ways to get internet traffic to visit my site, and once I put up a Contact Me page, people started contacting me for advice on their Bahamian vacations!

I still don’t have a lot of time to work on my site, but I add information whenever I can. I’ve been able to establish a nice little business earning me income doing something I enjoy – telling people about Paradise Island and what an easy getaway vacation it makes. Now, I choose to devote much of my time to my scientific work, but my fun online business entertains me and makes me a nice income. An added bonus is that it allows me to work at home at my own pace and on my own schedule. And my pace is often exceptionally slow!
